A Big Win for Top 4 Charge

A huge 6-1 win on the road for the Reds against Leeds give Liverpool fans hope for the top 4 race and European football next season.

After leading 2-0 at the break with goals from Gakpo and Salah, Klopp’s men were hungry for more goals. They came out in the second half conceding almost immediately. This only woke them up more.

In the 52nd minute, Jones worked well to find Diogo Jota to help him to his first goal of the campaign due to injury throughout the season.

After this, goals kept firing in. Salah found his second of the game and 15th in h the league, then Jota also fired home his second of the game.

In the 81st minute, Luis Diaz returned to the squad after sustaining his knee injury that kept him out since October 9th 2022.

Lots of positive signs from the Teds after that performance, brilliant play going forward, defending looking better and Trent playing in a more forward role changes the game so much in the attack.

The next game for Liverpool is Nottingham Forrest at home on Saturday. Forrest have just come from a 2-0 home loss against Manchester United on Sunday. They will be optimistic coming into the game having beat the Reds in the reverse fixture.

How Much Has Changed in a Year

A full year since the Semi-Final tie in the FA Cup at Wembley between Liverpool and Manchester City where the Reds dominated in a 3-2 win. Quadruple hopes were alive and fans were extremely happy with performances.

The Reds currently sit 8th in the Premier League with 7 games to go. They are out of the FA Cup, Champions League and League Cup and they are currently sat outside all of the European spots available. A poor season to say the least for Klopp’s side and one to forget for all the fans.

However, Klopp has already stated that he is not ready to give up and that the team will be recruiting a brand new midfield for the next season.

It was confirmed this week that the Reds had discontinued there pursuit of young English midfielder Jude Bellingham as his price tag would be too much for them as they look to build a full midfield rather than one player.

A year prior to this heartbreaking season, the Reds were on target to complete a quadruple, they sat 2nd in the Premier League level on point with Man City, they had just beaten Man City to make it to the Fa Cup final, they had won the League Cup and they were in the Semi-Finals of the Champions League.

We all know what happened next, the Reds went on to win the FA Cup and missed out by a fraction on winning the league and UCL in Paris.

A lot has changed in a year for Liverpool, maybe a full recovery from last season was never properly achieved, key players being injured throughout the season and poor performances against bottom half of the table teams have led to a poor league position.

A summer rebuild and a proper recovery would give Klopp’s men a better chance and a fresh start for the 2023/24 season.

Contrasting to this, if a European spot is not secured, Liverpool may face an unattractive look for any new arrivals and players may not want to join the club based on the current position.
