Spurs v Liverpool Preview: Biggest Game of the Season

Liverpool will travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on this Saturday in a top 4 clash with both teams unbeaten this season.

Liverpool’s Start to the Season
The Reds have 5 wins in the last 5 Premier League games and have not lost a game in all competitions this season and a flying after a poor 2022-23 season.

They sit second in the Premier League 2 points behind a strong Manchester City side who are looking to retain their title as champions of England, Liverpool will put up a good fight to make sure that this does not happen.

After a 3-1 home win in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, Liverpool make it through to the 4th round and keep high hopes that the Reds can push for a second League Cup trophy in 3 seasons. Klopp’s men fought hard to beat Leicester in front of a full Anfield crowd after going 1-0 down in the first 3 minutes of the game, it included a masterclass performance for Hungarian midfielder Dominick Szoboslai who has become a fan favourite after a strong start to his Anfield career.

Tottenham’s Start to the Season
Spurs have had a great start to the season with new Australian coach, Ange Postecoglou, with 4 wins and 2 draws in 6 games sitting in 4th, 1 point behind Brighton and 4 points behind the top of the table.

Fantastic performances both individually and as a team has produced results since the start of the season. James Maddison arrived to London in the summer and has shown his class by creating a whole new dynamic for the attacking force since losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

Saturday’s Game
Saturday evening’s game looks to  be a promising one full of entertainment and lots of big opportunities.

Two top teams looking to keep up their unbeaten league form in an attempt to challenge for the title, Klopp is looking to get his side back on track after a poor season last time out and Postecoglou is trying to make a statement to the rest of the league and Europe to prove that Tottenham should be considered one of the top sides.

Predictions for the Match
A tough game for the reds this weekend as they are facing a strong opposition at a tough stadium. I believer that they will get nothing less than a draw and they would be more likely to come out as the better side.

Tottenham will put up a good fight with Klopp’s men and it proves to be one of the most entertaining games of the season, one that will shape the table for the rest of the season.

Europa League Campaign: The Start

The Reds will start their 2023/24 UEL campaign in Austria on Thursday where they will be facing Thomas Sageder's LASK in Linz. This will be the first time in history that Liverpool and LASK have faced off so the build up may be more than expected.

The UEL past for The Red's

Liverpool last played in the Europa League in the 2015/16 season where they ended up in the final against the most successful club in the competition, Sevilla, which ended in a 3-1 defeat despite a Daniel Sturridge screamer.

Motivation for poor last season

Klopp will be looking to win the Europa League this season as it is the only competition he has not won with the Reds since taking over in 2015. This will be the motivation for his side this year to get back on track after the poor season last year.

The Reds finished 5th after a terrible first half to the season and a decent second half where they finished on a run of 11 games unbeaten

Our Opponents

LASK sit 3rd in the Austrian Bundesliga behind Salzburg and Sturm Graz, where the side finished the 22/23 season to qualify for the Europa League. Unbeaten in 5 league games (3W,2D), LASK will look to extend that run, however, they are met with a Liverpool side who are yet to lose all season and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

The Black-Whites were the first team out of Vienna to win the Austrian Championship, the only in their clubs history. They have been in European competition multiple times throughout the clubs history but rarely make it out of the group stages.

Predictions for the team and the campaign

Klopp may decide to put out a more weakened team for the Thursday night fixture as he wants to rest players and give players more game time for the season, but, as the first game of the competition, the Reds would want to make a statement to the rest of the teams in the competition, so quality may be put out over anything for just this game.

Liverpool are favourites to win the competition so pressure is on for them throughout the competition, this added pressure could produce quality or mistakes. Klopp, will be hoping for quality. The group at first sight is not intimidating but, with Europa League football, there can be no accurate predictions for what may happen during the competition.
